Responsibilities
ECS Limited is offering a unique opportunity for a talented and certified Lab Manager to join our Fredericksburg team. We offer opportunities for professional development with additional incentives as you advance your skills and gain experience. In this role, you will primarily be responsible for the quality control and management of junior staff within the construction materials testing laboratory to ensure the department’s goals are met.
- Laboratory Safety and Compliance
:
Promote safety culture and ensure proper PPE is used;
Oversee calibration and maintenance of lab equipment per manufacturer schedule;
Ensure compliance with QMS policies, enable certifications such as AASHTO, CMEC, or A2LA, with proficiency testing. - Laboratory Leadership
:
Manage lab testing activities and personnel, coordinate schedules, oversee tests and interpretation. - Soils Testing
:
Oversee routine lab tests for soils including Atterberg limits, gradation, swell, moisture, unconfined compressive strength, standard and modified Proctor, and learning visual classifications. - Concrete Testing
:
Oversee routine tests for concrete including labeling, curing, temperature logging, sample breaking. - Data
:
Prepare and review reports and summaries; perform calculations and data reduction of test results. - Communication
:
Mentor and train staff; coordinate schedules; assist project and department managers; collaborate with recruiting and supervisor; participate in business development, marketing, client development.
- High school diploma or GED.
- 4+ years of related experience performing lab tests on construction materials.
- Must hold and be willing to maintain basic concrete and/or soils lab certifications.
- Must be able to lift 60-80 pounds.
- Strong communication skills (speaking, reading, writing).
- Ability to work effectively with peers, supervisors, clients and build a team.
- Good understanding of construction materials lab testing equipment, methods, principles, ASTM standards and spec compliance.
- Proficient at data interpretation and evaluation of CMT techniques and results.
- Leadership and decision‑making skills.
- Sound knowledge of QMS implementation and lab accreditation requirements.
- Knowledge of ECS systems and procedures is a plus.
