Testing for Police Officer

Starting Salary: $60,000

U.S. police officer testing dates:

• Saturday March 14th 2026 at 8:00am
• Saturday April 11th 2026 at 8:00am
• Saturday May 9th 2026 at 8:00am

You are not permitted to attend testing unless registration is confirmed.

• Register for testing by contacting Sgt. Velasco and providing your name, address and telephone number.

Upon successful completion of the written test, you will qualify for the Police Officer Academy (April 2026 or July 2026) at the Rappahannock Regional Criminal Justice Academy.

• Be punctual. You will not be accepted after the scheduled testing time. Testing will be held at the Fredericksburg Police Department, 2200 Cowan Boulevard, Fredericksburg, VA 22401.
• Be prepared. Review testing materials and videos on the department website. Bring your valid driver’s license. All other testing materials will be provided. Bring water and snacks.
• Dress appropriately. Arrive at the testing site in fitness attire and athletic shoes. Plan for at least two hours for written testing and four hours for physical agility testing.
• Unauthorized items. Backpacks, bags, cell phones, smart watches or other electronic devices that access the internet are not permitted. Leave these items in your vehicle.

• Verification of previous work performance and driving history
• Polygraph examination
• Psychological examination
• Background investigation
• Police Ride-Along
• Senior Panel oral review board
• Interview with the Chief of Police
• Medical exam

• Maximum weight bench press (one repetition)
• One‑minute maximum sit‑ups
• Sit & reach
• Maximum pull‑ups to exhaustion (pull‑downs not permitted)
• Maximum push‑ups to exhaustion
• 1.5 mile run
• Obstacle course in 1 minute 36 seconds or less
• Minimum score required: 169 points

• 21 years of age by graduation of academy
• United States Citizen
• Valid driver’s license
• High School Diploma or GED
• One year of work experience involving public contact
• No more than two moving violations within the previous 24 months
• No record of convictions within the previous 60 months for DUI, eluding, leaving the scene of an accident, or vehicular manslaughter
• No record of a second or subsequent DUI
• No revocations or suspensions of license within previous 60 months due to moving violations
• No convictions or pleas guilty/ no contest to a felony or any offense that would be a felony if committed in the Commonwealth of Virginia
• No convictions or pleas guilty/ no contest to a Class 1 or 2 misdemeanor involving moral turpitude or any misdemeanor that would be considered such in Virginia
• No convictions or pleas guilty/ no contest to any misdemeanor sex offense in Virginia, another state, or the United States
• No convictions or pleas guilty/ no contest to domestic assault
• Background investigation including fingerprint‑based criminal history records inquiries to the CCRE and FBI
• Physical examination after conditional offer of employment
• Negative result on pre‑employment drug screening
