Location: Fredericksburg, Virginia

School Security Officer (SSO) is responsible for ensuring the safety, security, and welfare of all students, faculty, staff, and visitors in the school. The SSO ensures order and discipline, prevents crime, investigates violations, and detains students violating the law or school board policies on school property or at school-sponsored events.

• Patrol hallways, stairwells, restrooms, and parking areas.
• Act as a first responder to emergency incidents on school grounds and at school events.
• Check hall passes of students going to and from class.
• Enforce school safety and security rules and regulations.
• Monitor traffic and oversee the safety of students riding school buses and driving cars.
• Participate in school committee meetings regarding student conduct and threat assessments.
• Check parking permits of students and staff and report violations to the office.
• Maintain security during sporting events, lunch periods, and other activities.
• Check all windows, doors, and entrances of the building daily, and report any physical or mechanical damage to the principal.
• Investigate and report any unusual conditions, disturbances, or possible violations of the Code of Student Conduct.
• Conduct walkthroughs and check Emergency Exits, Fire Extinguishers, Building Evacuation Maps, and other safety checks as required.
• Participate in lockdown and other safety drills; offer feedback to staff and administration for improvement.
• Oversee the use and monitoring of the school security technology and equipment.
• Perform other related duties assigned.

Required:

• High School Diploma or GED
• 21 years of age
• Current (valid, not expired) Driver’s License
• Ability to obtain Emergency First Aid, CPR & AED certification, Virginia Department of Criminal Justice (DCJS) compulsory training certification, and Mandt training certification within 60 days of hire.

Preferred:

• Two (2) years of successful, full-time experience in law enforcement or building security.

• Citizenship, residency or work visa required.
