What You’ll Do
The Fredericksburg Police Department is accepting applications for the position of School Resource Officer (SRO). The SRO is responsible for prevention, detection, investigation, and prosecution of criminal violations that occur on Fredericksburg City School property or events.
- Law Enforcement and Safety
: primary point of contact for all calls for service, coordinate response of police resources, ensure safety of administrators during incidents involving weapons, controlled substances, or risky student behavior, provide information on crimes or leads to investigative units, stay informed about investigations involving students. - Liaison and Communication
: provide information to students and school personnel, adhere to the Memorandum of Understanding with Fredericksburg City Public Schools, stay informed about services rendered by other law enforcement units. - Threat Assessment and Crime Prevention
: monitor students identified as subjects of concern, collaborate with school administrators to address school crime and disorder, work with city departments and community resources to implement solutions. - Community Engagement and Support
: assist in problem‑solving school crime with community members, promote and enrich youth through law‑related teaching and mentoring, respect and work effectively with diverse backgrounds.

Minimum Qualifications- VA DCJS Certified law enforcement officer
- No more than two moving violations within the previous 24 months
- No current or previous revocation of license suspension within the previous 60 months due to a moving violation
- Undergo a background investigation including fingerprint‑based criminal history records inquiries to both the CCRE and FBI
- Undergo a physical examination, subsequent to a conditional offer of employment
- Polygraph examination
- Must complete Lawfit® course in 1 minute 36 seconds
