Job Description

Locate Technicians are responsible for accurately locating underground facilities including, but not limited to, telephone communication lines, electric power lines, cable television lines, gas lines, fiber optic lines, water lines, and sewer lines. This position is a key component in ensuring that the area complies with client and state requirements. Service duties include observing, locating, marking, and documenting underground and exposed utility locations.

It requires an understanding of multiple locating methods.

Locating technicians are dispatched to locate and verify for utility customers. They can work independently or in a team environment and will report to an assigned supervisor. The job requires focus, skill, and the use of machinery and tools.

Tools and Equipment Provided
  • Company vehicle, laptop and smartphone
  • All personal protective equipment
Responsibilities
  • Locate underground facilities by using a transmitter and connecting to buried facilities, pedestals, etc.
  • Work in and walk over all types of terrain in construction zones and residential, commercial, industrial, and rural areas in all weather conditions.
  • Interpret job order tickets, blueprints, and maps to efficiently route and perform duties.
  • Perform locates and emergency/on‑call locates during regular, overtime, and holiday hours as necessary.
  • Complete all work in a timely, professional, and efficient manner while communicating effectively with customers, co‑employees, and third parties.
  • Communicate with management, contractors, and utility customers to ensure a damage‑free environment.
  • Have knowledge of technology and tools needed.
  • Work with others and in a supervised team environment.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalency (GED)
  • State‑issued driver's license
  • Ability to solve problems
  • Ability to read, interpret, and decipher multiple types of prints
  • Experience operating vacuum trucks (A+)
  • Ability to lift over 50 lbs
  • Ability to walk/stand for multiple hours a day
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Pass a background screening (no violations within the last 5 years)
  • Pass a DOT drug test
