What You’ll DoAs a Benefit Programs Specialist, you will be primarily responsible for Intake processes. You’ll be tasked with determining program eligibility for various public assistance programs, ensuring that applicants receive the support they need.
- Eligibility Assessment Conduct interviews with applicants to assess their needs, determine eligibility for assistance programs, and guide them through completing necessary forms and documentation.
- Case Management Manage a caseload of clients by performing technical and administrative duties to maintain accurate records and monitoring ongoing program eligibility to ensure continued client support.
- Client Support and Counseling Provide detailed explanations of benefit programs to applicants and offer counseling and support to help them understand and navigate the social services system.
- Administrative Duties Perform necessary administrative tasks related to case management while ensuring compliance with departmental policies and procedures to maintain the integrity of the benefit programs.

- High School diploma or equivalent;
- Two (2) years of experience working with the general public in a local department of social services, or equivalent education, and/or experience.
- Must be able to pass a criminal background check to include a clean search of the Virginia Child Abuse and Neglect Central Registry (no current findings or cases associated to you).
- A valid state driver’s license that meets the standards for the City of Fredericksburg.
- Prior experience working for a Social Services department.
- Proficiency in Microsoft office software.
- Knowledge of DSS case management systems.
- Prior experience working as Benefits Intake worker.
