Our client, a growing organization in the logistics and transportation sector, is seeking an experienced Controller to lead their accounting and finance function. This individual will be responsible for overseeing all financial operations, ensuring regulatory compliance, and providing strategic financial insights to support business growth.
The ideal candidate will bring strong leadership experience, a hands-on approach, and a deep understanding of financial practices within the logistics industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee all aspects of the accounting function, including general ledger, AR/AP, payroll, and financial reporting
- Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes
- Ensure compliance with Canadian accounting standards, tax regulations, and internal controls
- Manage cash flow, working capital, and financial risk
- Develop and implement financial policies, procedures, and controls to improve efficiency and accuracy
- Partner with senior leadership to provide financial insights and support strategic decision-making
- Oversee audits and liaise with external auditors, tax advisors, and regulatory bodies
- Monitor KPIs and financial performance specific to logistics operations (e.g., freight costs, margins, utilization)
- Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting/finance team
Qualifications & Requirements
- 10+ years of progressive experience in accounting/finance
- Minimum 5 years of experience within the logistics, transportation, or supply chain industry
- Strong knowledge of financial reporting, budgeting, and internal controls
- Experience managing full-cycle accounting operations
- Proven leadership experience with the ability to manage and develop teams
- Strong understanding of ERP systems and financial software
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, operationally driven environment
