The Corporate Services and Community Funding Division supports the department by providing financial, human resources, strategic planning, project support, and information management services. The Division also administers several funding programs that support local, regional and environmental priorities.

The Department of Environment and Local Government provides leadership in environmental management and addressing climate change while supporting strong local governance and vibrant communities throughout New Brunswick.

What you will do

Reporting to the Assistant Deputy Minister of Corporate Services and Community Funding, the Director serves as the Department's Chief Financial Officer and provides overall leadership and management of financial and administrative services for the Department of Environment and Local Government.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing executive leadership to branch staff, including setting priorities, managing performance, supporting professional development, and planning for succession.
  • Leading departmental financial planning, including budget preparation, monitoring, forecasting, and long-term fiscal sustainability.
  • Overseeing expenditure and revenue accounting, forecasting, and reporting, and supporting the department through Main Estimates and Public Accounts processes.
  • Providing strategic financial advice and decision-support to senior management, branches, and regional offices.
  • Ensuring effective financial controls, risk management, and compliance with applicable legislation, policies, and directives.
  • Championing continuous improvement and modernization of financial systems, processes, and reporting practices.
  • Liaising with central agencies and oversight bodies, including the Auditor General, Office of the Comptroller, and the Department of Finance and Treasury Board.

  • University degree in Business Administration or Commerce and a recognized professional accounting designation with:
  • eight (8) years progressive senior financial management experience and
  • two (2) years with human resources and financial management responsibilities;
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

Written and spoken competence in English is required. Please state your language capability.
