Overview
Join BMO. This Mortgage Specialist role offers training and support, the opportunity to build a referral network, and the potential for strong earning possibilities by helping customers achieve home ownership.
Responsibilities- Cultivates, builds, and manages relationships with a referral network to create a pipeline of new mortgage business and increase BMO’s share of the home financing market.
- Actively identifies sales opportunities and refers to BMO colleagues as appropriate.
- Develops and executes marketing and sales programs to drive business results while following corporate policies, operating directives, legal and regulatory requirements.
- Proactively contacts referral and origination sources through national or local partnerships to lead discussions about home financing solutions.
- Assists with targeted marketing programs, promotions, and other initiatives; seeks cross-sell and up-sell opportunities.
- Supports delivery of targeted marketing programs and initiatives; expands network by obtaining referrals and originations from existing relationships.
- Establishes and enhances the Bank’s community presence through trade shows, conferences, and related events.
- Serves as a customer advocate during application and processing activities; completes onboarding activities as required.
- Delivers exceptional customer service, guides customers through mortgage application and processing, and partners with branch teams to hand off customers and finalize mortgage documentation.
- Resolves or escalates issues to meet customer expectations and ensures timely funds advancement.
- Provides friendly, professional service in response to queries and identifies client needs for banking products, referring to appropriate BMO partners.
- Stays informed of consumer needs, industry trends, regulatory requirements, policies, and procedures for mortgage products and services.
- Addresses customer service issues per established parameters, escalating complex matters as needed.
- Develops solutions and makes recommendations aligned with business strategy and stakeholder needs; provides guidance on implementation.
- Supports execution of strategic initiatives with internal and external stakeholders; helps determine business priorities and sequencing.
- Conducts independent analysis to resolve strategic issues; liaises with BMO teams and customers to ensure satisfactory completion of home financing applications.
- Documents updates in internal systems to provide status visibility for opportunities, transactions, and issues.
- Analyzes data to provide insights and formats data into regular and ad-hoc reports and dashboards.
- Contributes to planning and implementation of operational programs; executes routine tasks within service level agreements; organizes work information for accuracy and completeness.
- Engages with referral networks to generate referrals and mortgage originations for clients needing real estate lending solutions; completes transactions in compliance with guidelines and requirements.
- Works independently with the possibility of broader responsibilities as needed; exercises judgment to diagnose and solve problems within policy and risk frameworks.
- Typically 3–5 years of relevant experience with a post-secondary degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- In-depth understanding of the mortgage lending process and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Strong interpersonal, sales, customer service, and negotiation skills.
- Expert knowledge of self-management, teamwork, personal lending, relationship sales and management.
- Functional knowledge of personal banking, investments, trust services, business and commercial lending, and cash management.
- Strong knowledge of the broader real estate industry and mortgage market; strong negotiation skills.
- Verbal and written communication skills; collaboration and teamwork; analytical and problem-solving abilities; influence skills.
