OverviewThe Wolastoqey Economic Development Corporation (WEDCo) is Nation-led dedicated to fostering long‑term prosperity for Wolastoqey communities through economic development, while rooted in our values and culture and supporting Indigenous Treaty and Title Rights. WEDCo seeks to create opportunities that strengthen our communities, support self‑determination, WEDCo is the first‑of‑kind initiative to establish a Nation based economic platform for the Wolastoqey Nation. The importance and responsibility associated with the development of such an entity cannot be understated.
Job Responsibilities- Strategic Leadership:
Develop and implement long‑term strategies to promote economic growth and regional competitiveness. - Align organizational goals with community needs and stakeholder priorities.
- Economic Development Initiatives:
Lead efforts to attract and retain businesses, support entrepreneurship, and foster workforce development. - Identify and promote investment opportunities, infrastructure enhancements, and innovation hubs.
- Stakeholder Engagement:
Serve as the primary liaison to government agencies, business leaders, and community organizations. - Represent the organization in public forums, media, and policy discussions.
- Organizational Management:
Oversee daily operations, staff performance, and financial health. - Ensure compliance with legal, ethical, and governance standards.
- Education:
a bachelor’s or master’s degree in business administration, economics, urban planning, public administration, or related field. - Experience:
Minimum of 10 years in executive leadership, preferably within economic development, public‑private partnerships, or non‑profit management. - Demonstrated success in strategic planning, fundraising, and stakeholder engagement.
- Experience in the civil construction industry.
- Experience in industrial and commercial trade.
- Experience in project management.
- Experience in startup business development.
- Strong leadership and communication abilities.
- In‑depth understanding of regional economic trends, policy, and development tools.
- Financial expertise and proficiency in budget management.
- Ability to build coalitions across government, business, and community sectors.
- Excellent work ethic and the drive to meet objectives and achieve positive results.
- Clear and effective communication skills for diverse situations and audiences.
- Proven ability to lead and facilitate meetings, clarifying decisions and actions.
- Effective delegation, coaching, and mentoring of staff.
- Familiarity with legislation and legal decisions impacting Indigenous communities in Atlantic Canada.
- Demonstrated capacity to manage complex projects and competing priorities.
- Ability to maintain accurate records and ensure confidentiality.
- Proven track record in leading strategic and operational planning within a dynamic organization.
- Knowledge of New Brunswick’s Indigenous peoples and issues related to communities and Treaty Rights.
- Direct experience working with or for Indigenous Communities.
- Experience collaborating with Indigenous political leaders.
- Experience reporting to a Board of Directors and ensuring robust organizational governance and clear boundaries between governance and operations.
- Skill in identifying areas for improvement and implementing changes to policies, procedures, and programs.
- Support for recruiting and retaining Indigenous staff.
- Experience navigating challenging government relations while maintaining key contacts.
- Experience with Nation Building among First Nations communities.
- Leadership experience in a trauma‑informed work environment.
Remuneration is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Wolastoqey Economic Development Corporation offers competitive salaries and benefits to employees. The Salary Range for this position is $90,000.00 - $.
The working location is in New Brunswick, preferably within the Wolastoqey Nation (some hybrid work may be required initially).
