Full-Time Salary: $65,000–$70,000 annually, commensurate with experience About the Position We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Staff Accountant to join our Accounting/Finance team in Eatontown, NJ. The Staff Accountant will play an important role in supporting the Company's day-to-day accounting operations and maintaining accurate financial records. This position will have hands-on responsibility for general ledger activities, journal entries, account reconciliations, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and assisting with month-end and year-end close processes.
The Staff Accountant will work closely with the Accounting Manager and Controller and will have exposure to a broad range of accounting functions, financial reporting, and special projects. The ideal candidate is organized, dependable, analytical, and comfortable taking ownership of their responsibilities while working collaboratively with the accounting team and other departments. Essential Responsibilities General Accounting & General Ledger Prepare and post journal entries and maintain accurate general ledger activity.
Perform monthly reconciliations of bank accounts, credit card accounts, and general ledger accounts. Research and resolve discrepancies in general ledger, vendor, and customer accounts. Maintain accurate accounting records and supporting documentation. Prepare account analyses and supporting schedules as needed. Assist in maintaining accurate and organized financial records. Month-End & Year-End Close Assist with monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing activities. Prepare journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules as part of the close process.
Review account balances and investigate unusual or unexpected activity. Assist with the preparation of financial information for management review. Help ensure accounting activities are completed accurately and within established deadlines. Accounts Payable & Accounts Receivable Process accounts payable invoices and verify supporting documentation. Assist with vendor payments and resolve vendor account discrepancies. Manage accounts receivable activities, including customer invoicing and cash applications.
Monitor customer accounts and assist with collection follow-up. Research and resolve customer account discrepancies. Reporting, Audit & Compliance Prepare and maintain financial schedules, reports, and account analyses. Assist with internal and external audits by preparing requested schedules and documentation. Support management with accounting information and financial reporting as needed. Assist with maintaining accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls. Ensure accounting records and documentation are maintained accurately and in accordance with Company procedures.
Process Improvement & Special Projects Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, procedures, and efficiency. Collaborate with other departments to ensure financial transactions are recorded accurately and timely. Participate in accounting projects and other special projects as assigned. Provide accounting support to the Accounting Manager and Controller as needed. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field preferred.
2–4+ years of accounting experience, preferably in a Staff Accountant, General Accountant, or similar role. Solid understanding of accounting principles and general ledger accounting. Experience preparing journal entries and performing account reconciliations.
Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, and month-end close activities. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software. Quick Books experience preferred. Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy. Excellent organizational and time-management skills. Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines. Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently while also working effectively as part of a team.
