The City of Salem is currently accepting applications for the position of Clerk 2, a full-time union position under the Senior Account Clerk Typist title. This role is part of the Blue Collar Workers Association and offers an opportunity to contribute to the daily operations of City Hall while serving residents with professionalism and care.

Position Overview:

Under limited supervision, the Clerk 2 performs a variety of clerical duties involving the processing of documents, recordkeeping, customer service, and departmental support. The position requires the ability to work independently, follow established procedures, and interact effectively with staff, residents, and other stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Receive, review, and process applications, forms, and documents
  • Provide information and assistance to residents at the service counter and by phone
  • Organize and maintain records, files, and reports
  • Assist with permitting, licensing, and general administrative operations
  • Perform routine clerical duties to support departments
  • Operate standard office equipment and basic computer software
  • Serve as the deputy registrar after completion of course
  • Support the tax office and process tax payments when needed
Minimum Qualifications:
  • One (1) year of clerical experience
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Familiarity with office procedures and filing systems
  • Ability to follow instructions and meet deadlines
  • Experience providing direct service to the public is preferred
