Overview
Bert W. Camarata Memorial Scholarship (FHS students) Bert W. Camarata grew up in Colts Neck. He graduated from Freehold Regional High School in 1961, and went on to attend and graduate from Rutgers University. He died on December 30, 2023 at the age of 80. In high school Bert was a gifted athlete: an outstanding gymnast who performed on the flying rings;
he excelled at baseball and also played football. A true renaissance man, Bert also had a boundless enthusiasm for music, art, history and ideas. He was a kind, generous and loyal friend, a mentor to his colleagues, dedicated to his family and improving the world around him.
One $1,500 scholarship will be awarded to a graduating Freehold High School senior.
Selection CriteriaThe successful candidate will
- Be a senior at Freehold High School
- Demonstrate a commitment to excellence as an athlete and/or artist, and/or musician
- Serve as a positive role model for others
- Have made a positive impact on their community
- 3.50+ GPA
- Must be involved in at least one sport, music or art activity inside or outside of school
- Submit two or more pictures or videos (2 minutes or less) that describe how your talents and commitment have positively affected the people or environment around you. The pictures/videos must be emailed to:
- Write a short essay (750 or more words) that describes how and why you fit the selection criteria
Submissions will be reviewed and the selection made by the Camarata family. The recipient(s) will be presented with the scholarship at the FHS awards ceremony.
