Thomas J. McCann Memorial Scholarship (Manalapan High School Students)
Two (2) $1000 scholarships are awarded annually to one (1) senior male and one (1) senior female at Manalapan High School, who is successfully completing The Law Enforcement and Public Safety Academy, who exemplifies a model resident evident by his/her community service to the Township of Manalapan.
This scholarship was created in loving memory of Thomas J. McCann, a distinguished Firefighter for the New York City Fire Department for almost 23 years. On September 11th, 2001 he and many other rescuers paid the ultimate price while performing heroic efforts in saving so many people from the World Trade Center. It is a great honor that the Yorktowne Club, with monies raised at the annual Walk With Joe 9/11 Memorial 5K Walk, has recognized his sacrifice by establishing a scholarship in his name for deserving students here in Manalapan High School.
Tom McCann’s family continues, now for more than 25 years, to live here in Manalapan and his daughter, Courtney, was herself a graduate of this school in 2003. His wife, Ann Marie, his son, Sean, and his daughter, Courtney hope that this becomes a tradition that recognizes and supports Community Service for years to come.
