Salary Grade:

Journal Square campus, with occasional travel to the Secaucus Center and partnering high schools

About This RoleThe Early College Program, within Student Affairs and Enrollment, seeks a part‑time Academic Advisor, located mainly at the Journal Square campus, with occasional travel to the Secaucus Center and partnering high schools. Academic Advisors are responsible for providing support to a defined population of students, as well as assisting with general advisement of students who seek assistance on campus.
Summary Of DutiesWhat You’ll Do:
- Offer fundamental academic guidance and assistance in major exploration, transfer opportunities, educational programs, and course enrollment.
- Help students with the enrollment process, explaining prerequisites and course sequencing.
- Follow office and institutional guidelines regarding documentation and maintenance of student records.
- Work with the Associate Director or designee to develop consistent communications and outreach for the Advisor’s cohort of students.
- Direct students to campus resources such as tutoring, career services, and other student support services.
- Collaborate with Early College staff to provide support and assistance with student events and workshops.
- Assist students with understanding academic requirements and course selections to fulfill degree goals.
- Provide information on academic policies, deadlines, and institutional procedures.
- Support on‑campus operations including, but not limited to, supporting students who drop in for support and assisting staff with student advisement.
- Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Education, Social Work, Human Services or a related field
- Experience working with culturally and socioeconomically diverse populations
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Competency in various computer software and SaaS platforms like the Microsoft Office suite, Airtable or other CRM software.
- Strong interpersonal and listening abilities, focusing on understanding and supporting student needs.
- Problem‑solving skills and innovative thinking.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate and adapt within a dynamic team environment.
- Bi‑lingual ability is a plus, especially proficiency in Spanish or Arabic, to better serve our diverse student population.
- A proactive approach and willingness to learn new skills.
- Experience in a higher education setting, particularly working with a culturally and socioeconomically diverse student body.
- Experience with technologies such as Ellucian‑Colleague, and EAB Navigate would be a plus.
