O&M Field Manager & QHSE Manager – BESS

About the Role

We are seeking an O&M Field Manager & QHSE Manager to lead the operation, maintenance, and safety compliance of utility-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects across New Jersey. This dual role ensures optimal system performance while maintaining the highest standards of quality, health, safety, and environmental compliance.

The successful candidate will be hands-on in the field, coordinating with technicians, contractors, and utilities, while also developing and implementing robust QHSE policies that align with industry best practices and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Operations & Maintenance (O&M):

• Manage day-to-day operations and preventive maintenance of BESS sites to maximize uptime and performance.
• Coordinate field service teams, subcontractors, and OEM service providers.
• Oversee fault detection, troubleshooting, and corrective maintenance activities.
• Monitor system KPIs and performance data, preparing regular reports for leadership and stakeholders.
• Implement predictive maintenance strategies using SCADA and monitoring tools.

QHSE Management:

• Develop, implement, and enforce QHSE policies across all BESS operations in compliance with OSHA, EPA, NFPA, and state regulations.
• Lead site safety audits, inspections, and incident investigations, ensuring corrective and preventive actions are implemented.
• Train field teams and contractors on safety protocols, lockout/tagout, confined space entry, and emergency response procedures.
• Maintain all regulatory documentation, permits, and compliance records for state and federal reporting.
• Act as the primary liaison for safety with utilities, regulatory bodies, and local authorities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Safety Management, or related field (or equivalent experience).
• 5+ years’ experience in O&M or field management for renewable energy, energy storage, or power generation assets.
• Strong background in QHSE management, ideally in high-voltage or energy infrastructure projects.
• Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and New Jersey state environmental/safety regulations.
• Experience with utility interconnection and high-voltage electrical systems (preferred).
• Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
• Safety certifications such as NEBOSH, OSHA 30, ISO 45001, or equivalent (preferred).
