American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Medical Surgical Oncology unit requiring 2 years of experience, Epic proficiency, and an active NJ or Compact license.
Details- Inpatient Medical Surgical Oncology unit caring for chemo patients, patients with past/present cancer diagnoses, and inpatient hospice patients requiring general inpatient care
- Unit does not accept patients with infections that may compromise the oncology population, COVID-19, airborne isolation, or peritoneal dialysis patients
- Patient ratio of 1:6
- Day shift schedule, 3x12 hour shifts from 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM
- Every other weekend (Sat/Sun) required
- Assigned to a home unit but will float to other MS/Tele units as needed
- Epic charting experience required
- Active NJ or Compact RN license required
- Minimum 2 years of experience required
- Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS
- ONS Chemotherapy/Immunotherapy Provider Card highly preferred and may be obtained before assignment start
- OCN certification preferred
- Proficiency in IV therapy/infusions including port access, blood/blood product administration, central line and PICC line care, and infusion pump management
- Skilled in management of oncologic emergencies including ATLS, anaphylaxis, extravasation injury, hemorrhage, sepsis, and spinal cord compression
- Experience with psychosocial care including advance directives, hospice care, and patient/family education
- Symptom management skills for issues such as altered mental status, dysphagia, edema, nausea/vomiting, and neuropathy
- Medication administration knowledge including antibiotics, antiemetics, antitumor agents, corticosteroids, and IV-push narcotics
- Additional skills required: care coordination, chest tube management, colostomy/ileostomy care, Foley catheter insertion, dysrhythmia interpretation, isolation precautions/PPE, and telephone triage
- Chemotherapy administration and monitoring experience preferred, including continuous infusion, IV push, and oral chemo
- Provide direct nursing care to oncology patients including those undergoing chemotherapy and those receiving inpatient hospice care
- Collaborate with pediatric teams and support patients/families through advance care planning and end-of-life decisions
- Follow neutropenic precautions and proper handling/disposal of cytotoxic materials and post-chemo body fluids
- Recognize and communicate abnormal lab values as part of patient monitoring
- Flu vaccine required with no declinations accepted; medical or religious exemptions accepted with mask requirement
- Scrubs of any color permitted
- Holiday coverage required on a rotating every-other-holiday basis
- Locals accepted at the same rate

- Limited winter RTO available between December 15 and January 5, with up to two consecutive PTO days considered
