The School of Environmental and Biological Sciences at Rutgers University is seeking a Seasonal Agricultural Worker – Turfgrass Breeding Program to assist in establishing and maintaining turfgrass research areas on campus and in greenhouses. The role supports activities in research farms, field trials, and greenhouse projects.
Responsibilities- Handle watering, cutting, planting/establishment, or weeding of research trials on farms and in greenhouses.
- Assist in establishing breeding trials, collecting plant tissue or harvesting seed, isolation, preparation, threshing, and weighing.
- Develop and utilize various plant propagation techniques.
- Assist the primary investigator or researchers in data collection and analysis.
- Work up to 6 months consecutively, typically a 40‑hour week from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with possible weekend work.
- Minimum of high school or vocational school education or equivalent experience.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team with minimal supervision after training.
- Experience or interest in plant biology, plant breeding, or related disciplines.
- Experience working in an agricultural field, farm setting, or plant care.
- Ability to work in extreme weather conditions and to lift up to 40 pounds.
Hourly rate: $18.00 – $22.00. Salary determined by qualifications, experience, and departmental funding.
