PositionThe Township of Livingston has an opening for a Maintenance Worker in the Water Pollution Control Facility (WPCF), reporting to the Assistant Plant Superintendent.
Role OverviewThe Maintenance Worker performs a full array of unskilled and semi-skilled manual labor activities as needed by the Water and Sewer Departments to maintain operations. This position involves operating various types of equipment, specialty tools, machinery and commercial vehicles. The employee shall be trained in and expected to use various pieces of personal safety equipment.
Responsibilities- Maintain and repair the WPCF plant, equipment and sanitary sewer collection system.
- Maintain and repair the water system including wells, tanks, pumps and water treatment plants.
- Perform emergency sewer and water work repairs.
- Assist in routine preventative maintenance on vehicles and equipment.
- Perform strenuous manual labor in extreme climatic conditions including lifting and digging.
- Perform snow and ice removal activities. Respond to snow emergencies.
- Required to work overtime and respond to emergency callbacks.
This is a full time position, 40 hours / week with the following benefits: medical, dental, long term and short term disability, participation in the state pension plan and paid time off.
QualificationsAny combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from High School and some experience in maintenance and repair work.
Special RequirementsPreference for candidates in possession of a valid commercial driver’s license (CDL class
B) issued by the State of New Jersey with applicable endorsements for types of vehicles used. New employees must be in possession of a CDL permit and may be granted a reasonable period, not to exceed 6 months, to train for and obtain the necessary license and endorsements.
Salary Range for applicants with no CDL: $44,787 - $54,433. Salary Range for applicants with CDL: $50,862 - $60,508, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Consideration of the salary range is typically in the low to mid range and is at the discretion of the employer.
