Duties
Job Goal & Description (PART TIME):
Provide high-quality instruction and coordination of the Construction Trades Youth Apprenticeship Program within the Career
TEC consortium. Deliver industry-aligned classroom instruction focused on foundational construction skills, safety standards, career pathways, and employability skills through structured instructional units. Coordinate work-based learning opportunities, including job shadows, guest speakers, and potential internships, while building partnerships with local contractors, unions, and post-secondary programs to support the regional workforce pipeline. Limited residential project-based learning may be used to reinforce instruction. This is a nine-and-one-half-month, part-time morning position following the Freeport School District 145 calendar.
Performance Responsibilities
* Teach foundational and intermediate construction skills including (but not limited to): carpentry, framing, measuring/layout, safety practices, drywall, roofing, electrical basics, plumbing basics, and finish work.
* Integrate employability skills such as teamwork, communication, problem-solving, work ethic, and professionalism.
* Ensure adherence to safety standards and proper use of tools and equipment.
* Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners.
* Maintain classroom and job-site discipline consistent with consortium and district policies.
* Coordinate educational and work-based experiences for students (e.g. job shadows, guest speakers, field trips, residential projects, etc.).
* Foster partnerships and serve as liaison between educators, community, and business partners.
* Assist in recruitment of program participants.
* Prepare and regularly maintain grades, attendance, and all communication related to the program.
* Participate in professional development activities.
* Comply with Illinois State Board of Education, consortium, and district policies and reporting requirements.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) OR ability to obtain Illinois Professional Educator License with Stipulations (ELS).
ELS Requirements:
2,000 hours of experience in the Construction Trades field AND 60 semester hours
OR
8,000 hours of experience in the Construction Trades field
Background check required.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Strong knowledge and skill of residential construction and remodeling techniques, tools, equipment and materials
* Ability to obtain OSHA 10 Certification (provided by Career
TEC)
* Experience as an educator or on-the-job trainer
* Skilled in written, verbal, and electronic communication skills
* Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, including flexibility and adaptability
Salary/Benefits
Pay:
Up to $36,720.00 per year for 15-25.5 hours per week, depending on number of classes taught.
