Early Childhood Parent Support Specialist

Responsible for all parent education and engagement activities as outlined in the PFS/PFA-E grant. Provide families with education and activities that will enrich the education of their children and strengthen the relationship between school and home.

Terms of Employment:

  • 180-190 days - all student attendance days and other days as agreed upon by the Principal
  • Eight (8) hours per day
  • Some nights and weekends
  • Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, staff, and community members in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Engage in regular home visits based on parents'/guardians' schedules
  • Facilitate the Family Council
  • Develop and implement a written parent involvement plan.
  • Model best practices in parenting children in early childhood
  • Provide workshops, field trips, and child/parent events.
  • Invite and encourage family members to volunteer in the classroom.
  • Provide parent education opportunities.
  • Create an atmosphere in which teachers, administrators, and families are all valued participants in the child's education.
  • Provide a lending library for families with children's books, learning resources, and toys.
  • Create a regular program newsletter.
  • Use various means to reach families, including phone calls, emails, texts, apps, blogs, etc.
  • Keep current with best practices and requirements as they relate to the job.
  • Perform such other job related duties and assume such other professional responsibilities as your supervisor may assign
  • Represent Freeport School District in a professional manner.
  • Qualification Requirements:
    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.     Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred; not required
  • Associate Degree or 60 college credit hours
  • Experience and training to work effectively with students and parents in an educational setting
  • Knowledge of computers and the Google Suite
  • Analytical & Interpersonal

    Skills:

  • Ability to read and interpret documents.
  • Ability to write routinely and speak effectively before groups of employees.
  • Ability to work independently and in an acceptable time frame.
  • Ability to maintain efficient office procedures and systems for keeping track of requested action and reports.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, and apply basic concepts of algebra.
  • Ability to apply critical thinking skills and new technologies in rendering solutions to various technical issues.
  • Ability to use technology for word processing, collaboration, presentation, database, and spreadsheet programs and the use of other office equipment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective, appropriate working relationships with students, staff, and the community.
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
  • Physical Demands:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs with proper technique.
  • Ability to walk, stand, kneel, stoop, climb stairs, and sit for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to bend and twist at the neck and trunk to maneuver office work spaces.
  • Ability to hear and see close, distance, color, peripheral vision, and perceive depth.
  • Ability to use fine motor skills to complete detailed work for use on office equipment and technology.
