Mountain Ltd. has an opening for an OSP Field Engineer in the Freeport, IL area.

Job Description

This person must be an experienced Outside Plant Engineer with the skills and abilities to manage an assigned area (group of exchanges) with little supervision. The role reports locally to the assigned area and manages its daily needs, including field meetings with jurisdictions, customers, and joint utilities as needed. The engineer will be responsible for all OSP Engineering duties, following client standards and business directions.

This role will report daily to the client manager and must have a valid driver's license, own a personal vehicle, and possess the physical ability to perform all necessary field work and detailing.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or Equivalent Work Experience
  • Capability to perform most OSP Engineering tasks
  • Accomplished with basic systems/programs (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Accomplished in client systems – FROGS, Varasset, Site Tracker, DPI/QPort
  • Accomplished in most OSP design types – Aerial, Buried, U.G. New Build Designs
  • Accomplished in Copper and Fiber Technology/Understanding
  • Understanding of Copper Cable Counts (Binders, Groups, Super Groups) and Fiber Assignments (12 Fiber Increments)
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to participate in utility discussions with government entities – cities, townships, counties, DOTs, etc.
  • Ability to communicate with partner departments on OSP project designs – Operations, Central Office, Construction, etc.
  • Understanding and application of OSPE requirements, including customer-facing skills and partner department responsibilities
  • Ability to manage complex OSPE tasks – Ethernet designs (DSAT/BDTs), basic road moves, DSLAM deployments, copper and fiber cable “right-sizing”, etc.
  • Capability to read municipal, county, and state roadwork plans to redesign relocation projects
  • Full completion of OSPE designs based on the above requirements
  • Drafting, material identification, and ordering
  • Permitting requirements handling
  • Private ROW negotiations
  • Establishing project milestone dates
