Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepares and evaluates possible courses of action and makes decisions after the various possibilities have been considered.
  • Plans and implements all cleaning & floor maintenance activities. Responsible for designating timelines of projects and/or resources.
  • Schedules, maintains, and coordinates project cleaning tasks.
  • Conducts regular inspections of all shift areas, ensuring quality control standards are maintained, recorded and corrective action is initiated as necessary.
  • Complete personnel requisitions, reviews applications, interviews, and hires, and conducts new hire orientation.
  • Responsible for any attendance and disciplinary action required in accordance with organizational policies.
  • Documents behavior and performance issues and follows-up with appropriate corrective action or reward and recognition. Conducts performance evaluations.
  • Performs and completes department staff scheduling and timecard approval. Including the monitoring and approval of overtime.
  • Responsible for preparation and presentation of department meetings and insuring appropriate staff education.
  • Oversees and orders stock and equipment inventories, handling, processing and requisitioning. Maintains equipment in operable condition.
  • Handles patient and partner concerns and service recovery.
  • Participates in the investigation and testing of new materials, equipment, procedures and techniques to improve operations and recommends the purchase and/or implementation of same as appropriate.
  • Completes daily report and/or communicates pertinent information to the environmental services system manager or director.
  • Advises and assists partners as necessary.
  • Maintains necessary shift records, checklists and schedules.
  • Determines work assignments & prepares daily roster.
  • Assists with special assignments and participates on various committees as assigned.
  • Assists environmental services system manager and director in developing and monitoring department budget for Mercyhealth Walworth and Mercyhealth Harvard.
  • Assists in developing, revising, interpreting and implementing system wide environmental services policies, procedures and operating practices.
  • Develops and implements department quarterly performance improvement and dashboard documentation.
  • Provides initial approval of invoices.
  • Responsible for planning and implementing orientation and training programs for Mercyhealth Walworth and Mercyhealth Harvard.
  • Prepares minutes and reports as required, including linen use spreadsheet.
  • Maintains working knowledge of audio-visual equipment.
  • Directs vendor activities in such areas as floor care, pest control, window cleaning, equipment repair, linen services, waste, supplies, etc.

Education and Experience
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Prior supervisory experience required.
  • Three to five years of cleaning experience required.
  • Healthcare cleaning experience preferred.

Skills and Abilities

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of partners of organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
