Job Summary

The Occupational Therapist implements Occupational Therapy treatments and programs to facilitate patients' maximum functional level of independence. Occupational Therapy services may include, but are not limited to: evaluation of patients, muscle strengthening and balance exercise, activities of daily living, safety awareness, cognitive training, application of physical agents, work simplification and endurance training, neuromuscular reeducation, sensorimotor and vocational training.

Job Responsibilities
  • Evaluates patients for initiation, change or discharge of plan of care. Develops and implements treatment plan incorporating treatment methods and goals with patient/caregiver input.
  • Completes relevant documentation and record keeping of stated services and consultation with other disciplines and services per regulatory guidelines.
  • Designs, fabricates, fits and educates in the use of assistive devices, special equipment, splints and orthotics.
  • Selects or adapts appropriate programs and activities tailored to patients' needs consistent with their physical and mental ability, enabling them to reach their full potential, to return to prior level of function, working or adapted environment.
  • Performs home/work site evaluations when appropriate with recommendation to enable patient to return safely to their home/work environment.
  • Consults with other internal and external team members, disciplines or services to provide plan of care and recommendation to progress patient's rehabilitation.
  • Educates or instructs patient, family members, caregivers, staff or team members in skills and techniques required for patient to attain maximum functional outcome.
  • Attends and participates in patient care, staff conferences and other related meetings.
  • Develops and implements training programs for other healthcare members on Occupational Therapy objectives and techniques.
  • Documents recommendations and consultations to internal and external health providers.
  • Prepares, cleans and ensures proper working order of patient care equipment. Reports repair needs or maintenance to appropriate department per policy.
  • Supervises support personnel, and documents in accordance with state and professional standards.
  • Adheres to FHN policies, procedures and PRIDE Standards.
  • Displays competency for age specific patients: pediatrics to geriatrics (where applicable).
  • Participates in process improvement/quality indicator tracking when applicable.
  • Displays competency for the Occupational Therapist role as evidenced in the annual performance appraisal following the FHN PRIDE Standards.
  • Supervises Occupational Therapist Assistants, Rehabilitation Technicians, Transporters, students, and volunteers.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
Qualifications

Requirements

Education:

Bachelor's Degree from four-year College or University in Occupational Therapy.

Required Experience:

2 – 5 years related experience and/or training is preferred

Licensure/Certification/Registration:

  • Must be licensed or eligible in Illinois
  • Maintain AED/BLS certifications
