Material Handler

The Material Handler supports restroom partition manufacturing by ensuring production lines remain supplied with raw materials, work-in-process, and by promptly removing finished goods and scrap. This role focuses on production support within a manufacturing and assembly line environment rather than warehouse shipping and receiving. Responsibilities

  • Deliver raw materials to production lines, including the Architectural G-Line, to keep equipment running efficiently.
  • Stage sheet metal, restroom partition components, and other materials so machine operators can maintain continuous production.
  • Remove finished parts from machines or assembly stations and transport them to designated locations.
  • Move work-in-process materials between production steps to maintain smooth workflow across the line.
  • Return excess materials to appropriate staging or inventory locations in an organized manner.
  • Handle scrap removal from the line and ensure proper disposal or recycling according to procedures.
  • Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, carts, and similar material handling equipment to move materials safely and efficiently.
  • Keep the production line area organized, clean, and free of obstructions by following 5S principles.
  • Communicate with line leads and supervisors to understand and respond to material needs and production priorities.
  • Support general production activities as needed, including assisting with basic assembly, machine operation, or inspection tasks.

Essential Skills

  • Experience in general production, warehouse production, or material handling in a manufacturing setting (preferred).
  • Comfortable lifting 40 to 50 pounds regularly during the shift.
  • Ability to stand, bend, lift, and perform repetitive tasks for the duration of the shift.
  • Basic ability to read work instructions and follow written and verbal directions.
  • Background in production, general labor, assembly, machine operation, or inspection (preferred).
  • Prior material handling, warehouse, or manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Forklift experience helpful or willingness to be trained on forklift operation.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Prior forklift experience of about 2+ years is beneficial and may align with higher pay rates.
  • Experience moving sheet metal, panels, and fabricated components in a production environment.
  • Familiarity with operating pallet jacks, carts, and other material handling equipment.
  • Comfort working around manufacturing and assembly line machinery.
  • Interest in learning and following 5S and continuous improvement practices.

Work Environment

This position operates on 2nd shift, typically from 3:30 p.m. to 12:00 a.m., Monday through Friday, with the potential for shifts of up to 10 hours depending on production needs. The role is based in a manufacturing and assembly line environment where sheet metal and restroom partition components are produced and moved throughout the facility. Team members work on their feet for most of the shift, performing frequent lifting, bending, and repetitive motions.

The environment involves the use of forklifts, pallet jacks, carts, and other material handling equipment, as well as proximity to running machinery and production lines. Dress is consistent with a typical manufacturing setting, where practical, comfortable, and safety-appropriate attire is expected.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Freeport, IL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.25 - $24.25/hr eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
