We are looking for two (2) qualified full-time maintenance mechanics to join our facilities team at Highland Community College. This position is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing building structures, small appliances, and mechanical and electrical equipment throughout the college campus. The ideal candidate will have strong technical skills, a commitment to safety, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Key Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot equipment problems and take corrective action to resolve issues.
- Install and maintain campus electrical, plumbing, machinery, and other systems as directed.
- Determine proper materials and methods for assigned jobs and complete tasks professionally and efficiently.
- Clean and maintain tools and equipment.
- Follow safe work practices and procedures, including proper lifting and cleanup of projects.
- Assist with servicing fleet vehicles.
- Operate snow removal equipment and salt roads and parking lots during winter months.
- Identify and report unsafe or emergency conditions; respond to security calls.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education & Experience:
- High school diploma required;
Associate's degree preferred. - Two (2) years of work experience in applicable trades OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Valid Driver's License Required.
- Knowledge of maintenance and repair procedures, building systems, electrical and plumbing trades.
- Ability to read schematics, layout prints, and wiring diagrams.
- Proficiency in using power tools and equipment safely.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to follow oral and written directions.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Must complete a successful criminal background check.
- Ability to lift, push, pull, or carry objects up to 50 lbs. regularly.
- Work performed indoors and outdoors, occasionally in adverse conditions.
- Exposure to hazardous chemicals and heavy equipment.
- Play a vital role in maintaining a safe and welcoming campus environment.
- Work as part of a supportive team.
- Salary range: $20.30 - $30.46 per hour.
