Commercial HVAC Technician (Senior Level)
We are seeking an experienced Commercial HVAC Technician with 10+ years of hands-on experience servicing, troubleshooting, and repairing commercial HVAC systems. This individual will be responsible for diagnosing complex mechanical and electrical issues, performing preventive maintenance, and ensuring optimal system performance across commercial and industrial facilities.
This is a senior-level role requiring strong technical expertise, independent decision-making, and the ability to mentor junior technicians when needed.
Key Responsibilities- Diagnose, repair, and maintain commercial HVAC systems including RTUs, AHUs, chillers, boilers, VAV systems, VRF/VRV systems, split systems, and package units.
- Perform advanced electrical and mechanical troubleshooting on HVAC controls and system components.
- Service compressors, motors, pumps, valves, belts, bearings, and control systems.
- Conduct refrigerant recovery, leak detection, charging, and system balancing.
- Perform preventive maintenance on commercial HVAC equipment per contract specifications.
- Interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
- Start up new installations and verify proper system operation.
- Communicate clearly with facility managers and customers regarding system issues and repair recommendations.
- Complete service documentation and work orders accurately and timely.
- Ensure compliance with EPA, OSHA, and local building codes.
- 10+ years of commercial HVAC service experience.
- Strong experience with large-tonnage equipment and commercial mechanical rooms.
- EPA Universal Certification required.
- HVAC trade school or formal apprenticeship preferred.
- Experience with building automation systems (BAS) a plus.
- Strong understanding of electrical diagnostics and control circuits.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Valid driver's license with clean driving record.
- Ability to lift 50+ pounds.
- Comfortable working on rooftops, ladders, and in mechanical rooms.
- Ability to work in varying weather conditions.
