Position: Rope Access Mechanical Journeyman (Freeport, TX) - Austin Industrial

Austin Industrial, Inc. – Rope Access Technician Level 2 (Houston, TX)

We seek an experienced Rope Access Level 2 based in Houston, Texas.

This position requires current SPRAT/IRATA Certification (Level I, II, or III), a driver’s license, and a TWIC card.

Maintenance position working 4×10s plus occasional OT – No Per Diem.

Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and safety‑conscious Rope Access Technician to join our team. This role involves performing maintenance, inspections, and repairs in hard‑to‑reach areas using rope access techniques. The ideal candidate will have a strong mechanical background and be comfortable working at heights in various environments, including construction sites.

Duties
  • Execute rope access techniques to safely reach work areas for inspections, maintenance, and repairs.
  • Utilize hand tools and power tools to perform tasks such as welding, rigging, and heavy equipment operation.
  • Conduct thorough inspections of equipment and structures to identify issues that require attention.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure all safety protocols are followed during operations.
  • Maintain equipment and tools in good working condition, ensuring they are ready for use.
  • Document work performed and report significant findings or concerns to supervisors.
  • Drive trucks or operate forklifts as needed to transport materials or equipment on construction sites.
Skills
  • Proficient in the use of hand tools and power tools relevant to construction and maintenance.
  • Strong mechanical knowledge with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues effectively.
  • Experience in welding and rigging practices is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with heavy equipment operation is a plus.
  • Experience with drilling and earth stabilization projects.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record for truck duties.
  • Prior experience on construction sites or geotechnical stabilization environments is advantageous.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well within a team‑oriented environment.
Physical Demands

The employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear and taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and may frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Qualifications Education

No minimum education requirements.

Certification / Licenses
  • ASNT Level II certification preferred.
  • Valid TWIC card required.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable driving record (required).
  • Able to pass physical exam.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to provide clear and technical guidance to other technicians and subcontractors, and to solve technical issues in the field.
Experience

3–5 years of Journeyman level experience.
