An LNG operating company is seeking an experienced Alarm Management Engineer to serve as the site subject matter expert for alarm management systems supporting a large-scale LNG facility. This position will be responsible for optimizing and maintaining the facility's Honeywell Experion PKS alarm system, ensuring compliance with industry standards, improving operator effectiveness, and enhancing process safety through implementation of a comprehensive alarm management program.
The successful candidate will lead alarm rationalization efforts, reduce nuisance alarms, improve alarm system performance, and support operational excellence by leveraging industry best practices and regulatory requirements, including ISA-18.2 and related alarm management standards.
Key Responsibilities Alarm System Optimization- Configure, maintain, and optimize alarm settings within the Honeywell Experion PKS platform to improve operator effectiveness and situational awareness.
- Develop and maintain alarm philosophies, alarm documentation, and site alarm management procedures.
- Ensure alarm system performance aligns with industry best practices and operational requirements.
- Implement advanced Honeywell Experion alarm management functionality, including:
- Alarm Shelving
- Dynamic Alarm Suppression
- Alarm Tracker
- State-based and conditional alarming strategies
- Reduce nuisance alarms and improve alarm response during process upsets and abnormal operating conditions.
- Lead alarm rationalization workshops and projects in accordance with ISA-18.2 and applicable industry standards.
- Support compliance initiatives related to alarm management and process safety requirements.
- Develop and maintain alarm priorities, classifications, and response procedures.
- Utilize Honeywell Alarm Performance Optimizer and other analytical tools to evaluate alarm system health and performance.
- Identify and remediate chattering, stale, standing, and recurring alarms.
- Establish and monitor alarm system KPIs and drive continuous improvement initiatives aimed at significant reductions in alarm volumes and operator flooding events.
- Coordinate alarm management strategies across:
- Distributed Control Systems (DCS)
- Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS)
- PLC-based control systems
- Ensure consistency and effectiveness of alarm strategies across integrated operational technologies.
- Generate weekly and monthly alarm performance reports for site leadership and operations teams.
- Track alarm system improvement initiatives from identification through implementation and closure.
- Present findings, recommendations, and performance metrics to stakeholders.
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical discipline.
- Minimum 5 years of hands‑on experience supporting Honeywell Experion PKS systems within oil & gas, LNG, petrochemical, refining, or process manufacturing environments.
- Strong experience with Honeywell C300 Controllers and Series C I/O architecture.
- Demonstrated experience leading alarm management programs and alarm rationalization efforts.
- Experience utilizing alarm analytics and performance monitoring tools.
- Advanced knowledge of:
- Honeywell Alarm Manager
- DynAMo
- Alarm Performance Optimizer
- TiPS Log Mate
- Other alarm rationalization and performance monitoring software
- Experience with in LNG, gas processing, refining, petrochemical, or pipeline operations.
- Knowledge of compressor systems, separation processes, process control, and Advanced Regulatory Control (ARC) strategies.
- Familiarity with fire and gas systems and process safety management programs.
- Expert understanding of ISA-18.2 alarm management lifecycle requirements.
