Responsibilities
- Develop and lead the company's safety and compliance strategy across environmental services operations
- Build and transition the safety function from an outsourced model to an internal, scalable organization
- Establish policies, procedures, and governance frameworks aligned with OSHA, EPA, DOT, FMCSA, and environmental regulations
- Partner closely with executive leadership to identify risks and drive a proactive safety culture across the organization
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations related to hazardous waste handling, transportation, storage, and disposal
- Lead audits, inspections, incident investigations, corrective action plans, and regulatory reporting efforts
- Serve as the primary liaison with regulatory agencies and oversee permitting and compliance activities
- Develop and monitor key safety and compliance metrics to reduce organizational risk
- Integrate safety and compliance into daily operations and standard operating procedures
- Implement training programs for field personnel, drivers, and leadership teams
- Develop emergency response and crisis management protocols
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to strengthen compliance infrastructure and reduce incidents
- Evaluate systems and technology platforms to enhance reporting, tracking, and compliance oversight
- Build, lead, and develop a high‑performing safety and compliance team
- Establish performance metrics, accountability structures, and reporting processes
- Manage external consultants and compliance partners as needed
- 7+ years of progressive leadership experience in Environmental Health & Safety (EHS), Safety, Compliance, or related functions
- Strong background in hazardous waste, environmental services, transportation, industrial services, or other highly regulated industries
- Deep knowledge of OSHA, EPA, DOT, and environmental regulatory requirements
- Experience leading safety and compliance initiatives across multi‑site operations
- Proven ability to operate strategically while remaining hands‑on in operational environments
- Experience building or transitioning an internal safety function is strongly preferred
- Strong communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, Engineering, or a related field preferred
