POSITION SUMMARY:
The Project Controller (Project Controls / Project Cost Controller) safeguards project financial integrity by controlling budgets, commitments, actuals, forecasts, and invoices. The role partners with project leadership to provide timely cost visibility, drive accurate period close, and maintain audit-ready records.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Establish and maintain project cost structures (WBS, cost codes, budgets, commitments) in buyer ERP / project controls systems.
- Track actuals vs. budget; prepare weekly/monthly cost reports, variance analysis, and estimate-at-completion (EAC) / estimate-to-complete (ETC) updates.
- Manage commitment control: POs, change orders, accruals, and open commitments; reconcile to finance and supplier statements.
- Review and validate contractor/vendor invoices against contracts, rates, timesheets, and receiving evidence; route for approval.
- Support earned value management (as required): PV/EV/AC, SPI/CPI, and performance narratives.
- Coordinate with project managers, procurement, finance, and field teams to ensure accurate charging and timely period close.
- Maintain audit-ready documentation for costs, changes, and approvals; support internal and external audits.
- Identify cost risks and opportunities; contribute to contingency drawdown tracking and management reserve recommendations (L4-L5).
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education:
Bachelor degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Engineering, or equivalent experience. - Experience in project controls, project accounting, or cost engineering aligned to proposed Job Leveling Matrix level.
- Strong Excel skills (lookups, pivots, reconciliations); ability to work in ERP/project systems.
- Understanding of project cost management principles, accruals, and commitment accounting.
- High attention to detail, confidentiality with financial data, and clear written reporting.
- Authorization to work; ability to pass background check per buyer policy.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience with SAP, Oracle, Primavera, Eco Sys, Unifier, Smartsheet, or similar project controls platforms.
- Earned value (EVM) experience on capital or large operational projects.
- Construction / industrial / energy / manufacturing project finance exposure.
- Certifications:
PMP, CCP (AACE), CAPM, CPA candidate, or equivalent. - Experience supporting month-end close under tight deadlines.
