Responsibilities
- Under the direction of the assigned administrator, perform a variety of technical support duties involved in the selection, acquisition, maintenance and distribution of instructional materials; oversee and train library/textbook staff for the use of library/textbook software; provide general reference assistance to staff.
- Primary contact for purchasing course material.
- Maintain inventory of district instructional material warehouse stock.
- Catalogue new book titles, add books, patrons and teachers to database for inventory and circulation purposes; organize instructional materials in the warehouse; distribute stock to school sites as needed.
- Provide general and reference assistance to staff; resolve problems related to vendor orders, deliveries and returns of instructional materials; compile information and prepare instructional support materials; respond to inquiries and provide information.
- Perform general clerical work such as typing, duplicating and entering information into an assigned computer system; generate computerized reports; answer phone calls and respond to phone inquiries; establish and maintain filing systems including requisitions, purchase orders, shipping documents, budget transfer forms, lost or damaged receipts and inventory.
- Initiate purchase requisitions of instructional materials for school sites and warehouse stock; check and receive instructional materials from vendors and return damaged materials.
- Prepare and maintain a variety of records and reports related to inventory, overdue and lost materials and purchase requisitions.
- Receive and account for various monies and fees for lost or damaged materials and book buyback; prepare receipts, deposits and maintain related records; maintain budgetary records.
- Communicate with district personnel and outside agencies to exchange information and resolve issues or concerns related to materials.
- Research and create educational instructional support materials that are sent to all schools for distribution to staff.
- Visit libraries to provide training and support to all school sites in the area of library automation; coordinate and schedule periodic meetings for library and textbook staff.
- Coordinate the discarding of obsolete instructional materials and the book buyback process.
- Maintain confidentiality of information and records.
- Other duties: perform other duties related to the job as assigned.
- Graduation from high school and minimum of one year experience working in a library.
- Qualifying exam required for all qualified applicants.
- Knowledge of library methods, equipment, procedures, and terminology; appropriate selections and reading levels of students; library classification systems; location of materials in the library; basic math; operation of a computer and assigned software; record‑keeping and report preparation techniques; correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary; oral and written communication skills; interpersonal skills; modern office practices; district organization, operations, policies and objectives.
- Ability to perform a variety of technical support duties involved in the selection, acquisition, maintenance and distribution of instructional materials; organize warehouse stock; instruct staff in library automation; provide general and reference assistance to staff; perform clerical duties; process and prepare library materials for classifying, cataloging and circulation; make routine math calculations; maintain records and prepare reports; understand and follow oral and written instructions;
operate a computer and assigned software; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships; be flexible with changing priorities; work independently with little direction; meet schedules and timelines.
Positions in this job classification typically work 40 hours/week for 220 work days/year.
