Structural Plans Examiner – Fremont – Hybrid

We are seeking a talented and experienced Structural Plans Examiner to join our team. This role involves reviewing plans and specifications for compliance with city, state, and federal regulations, providing timely oral and/or written communication detailing design and/or construction deficiencies, and supporting inspectors with code compliance questions.
RESPONSIBILITIES- Reviews plans and specifications for projects to ensure compliance with city, state of California, and federal laws and regulations. Provides timely oral and/or written communication detailing design and/or construction deficiencies in plans and specifications.
- Review building permits with regard to regulations set by the Building Divisions.
- Assist inspectors with difficult or unusual code compliance issues and answer questions from inspectors about plan review comments.
- Cultivate, foster, and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external customers such as directors, managers, supervisors, employees, and other stakeholders to gain their cooperation and support on assigned projects/assignments.
- Experience with California Codes specific to structural design.
- Experience/knowledge of wood, concrete, steel and masonry buildings/structures, including CBC, CRC, ASCE7, NDS, AISC, ACI
318, ACI
530 and AISI standards. - Experience/knowledge of wood, steel and concrete lateral load resisting systems (e.g., SMF, OMF, BRBF, SCBF, wood and concrete shear walls).
- Experience/knowledge of structural design software (ENERCALC, ETABS, SAP, RISA, ADAPT, HILTI Profis, Simpson Anchor design, etc.).
- Extensive knowledge of local building codes and current construction procedures/technology.
- Ability to interpret codes in the field and provide code-compliant solutions.
- Strong interpersonal skills to positively interact with staff, the public, contractors, governmental entities, and other clients.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Good time management, organization, and attention to detail.
- Ability to exercise initiative and independent judgment.
- Ability to produce quality plan reviews on time and within budget.
- Structural or Civil Professional Engineer required.
- CASp certification preferred.
- ICC Residential Plan Review Certifications preferred.
- Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
- 3–5 years' experience in structural design and structural plan review.
