Job Overview: Greet and register guests, provide prompt and courteous service, and close out guest accounts upon completion of stay to meet high standards of quality.

Compensation: $18.50 - $19.00 per hour.

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Greet customers immediately with a friendly and sincere welcome; use a positive and clear speaking voice, listen to understand requests, and provide accurate information such as outlet hours and local attractions.
  • Complete the registration process by inputting and retrieving information from a computer system, confirming pertinent details including number of guests and room rate, promoting marketing programs, and assigning rooms based on guest needs. Code electronic keys, provide welcome folders, and ensure accurate performance throughout the front office.
  • Verify and imprint credit cards for authorization using electronic acceptance methods; handle cash, make change, and balance an assigned house bank. Accept and record vouchers, traveler’s checks, and other forms of payment; perform accurate arithmetic functions using a calculator. Post charges to guest room and House accounts using the computer.
  • Answer the telephone promptly with positive and clear communication; input and retrieve messages, and convey contents to guests. Retrieve mail, small packages, and facsimiles for customers as requested.
  • Close guest accounts at checkout and ascertain satisfaction; if dissatisfied, research and attempt to resolve the issue within guidelines, possibly involving a supervisor.
  • Field guest complaints and conduct research to develop effective solutions, resolving complications such as location changes or credit issues. Remain calm and alert during emergency situations and heavy activity. Plan and implement steps using experienced judgment and discretion.
  • Summon guest service personnel to escort guests to rooms as appropriate.
  • Provide safety deposit boxes to guests by escorting them to the vault room and assisting in opening the lock.
  • Operate fax machine to send, receive, and log incoming transmissions; notify guests of incoming faxes using the computer message function.
  • Use the photocopier to make copies as required.
  • File registration cards in room number order and retrieve them for each checkout.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the supervisor, such as assisting PBX operators or reservations agents.
Specific Job Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Considerable skill in using a calculator to prepare moderately complex calculations without error.
  • Ability to effectively deal with internal and external customers who may require high levels of patience, tact, and diplomacy to defuse anger, collect accurate information, and resolve conflicts.
  • Ability to stand and move throughout the front office while continuously performing essential job functions.
  • Ability to read, listen, and communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to access and accurately input information using a moderately complex computer system.
  • Excellent hearing and visual abilities to observe and detect signs of emergency situations.
Qualifications
  • Equivalent to graduation from high school or any combination of education, training, or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • No special licenses required.
  • No prior experience required; prior hospitality experience preferred.
  • Additional language ability preferred.
