The Department
The Community Services Department plays a key role in enhancing the community by designing dynamic parks, creatively implementing public art, expanding the urban forest, hosting popular community events, providing fun recreation programs, and delivering excellent customer service.
The DivisionThe Parks Planning and Design Division’s award-winning studio seeks to fill a vacancy in its 8-person design team. We aim to create imaginative public spaces; build exciting new parks; implement and appropriately site art in public places; and improve park equity throughout the City through strategic parkland acquisitions.
The PositionThe position will be filled as either an Associate Landscape Architect or a lower-level Landscape Architect II/Designer II, depending upon qualifications and fit. Both positions will perform professional-level landscape architectural work related to the design, construction, and rehabilitation of landscape and irrigation for parks, landscaped areas, and street and urban design projects. In addition, the Associate level incumbent will serve as project manager, team leader and/or supervisor, and consultant manager for site development of city facilities.

Job Duties
- Using prescribed methods and procedures, the incumbent performs specific and limited portions of a broader assignment of an experienced landscape architect.
- Prepare plans for planting, irrigation, site plans, grading, and layout for parks projects.
- Review and approve minor site development plans submitted for development approval for conformance with plans, specifications, and ordinances.
- Grant application and administration.
- Assist with park planning using equity maps, level of service maps, and master planning. Produce graphic representations of designs.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in Landscape Architecture, Park Planning, Horticulture, or a closely related field.
- Two years of progressively responsible professional experience in landscape architecture or park planning.
- Possession of a valid Class C California Driver’s License is required.
- A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in Landscape Architecture, Park Planning, Horticulture, or a closely related field.
- Five years of progressively responsible experience in professional landscape architecture and park planning.
- Possession of a valid Landscape Architect license issued by the State of California is required.
- Possession of a valid Class C California Driver’s License is required.
