Job Overview

Ohlone College is seeking a pool of qualified applicants for temporary part‑time teaching assignments in Journalism. Assignments may include day, evening, and weekend courses and may be in‑person, online, or hybrid. The pool remains for two years and is reviewed continuously to meet departmental needs.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Teach Journalism in accordance with post‑secondary level established course outlines.
  • Evaluate student work using clear criteria relevant to the course content and learning outcomes, and provide timely feedback.
  • Maintain and submit accurate records (grades, syllabi, attendance reports) according to published deadlines.
  • Create an equity‑based, welcoming classroom environment.
  • Perform duties described in board policy, faculty handbook, and as assigned at Fremont Campus, Newark Center, eCampus, or other designated locations.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's in Journalism or Communication with a specialization in journalism; or
  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism or Communication AND Master's in English, history, communication, literature, or related social science; or
  • Commitment to equity‑based, anti‑racist educational practices and understanding of diverse student backgrounds.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Community college teaching experience.
  • Use of innovative teaching methods and technologies (e.g., Blackboard, Canvas).
  • Experience creating inclusive syllabi and equitable classroom materials.
  • Experience addressing equity issues with racially minoritized students.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
