Role

Description:

The 8th Grade Homeroom and Science Teacher is a full-time, on-site role located in Fremont, CA. This role is responsible for planning and delivering engaging, standards-based science instruction to elementary and/or middle school students, including the development of daily lesson plans, classroom activities, and assessments. The Teacher designs hand-on experiments, integrates cross-curricular concepts, and uses a variety of instructional strategies to support diverse learning needs.

Day-to-day responsibilities include maintaining a positive classroom environment, communicating regularly with families and colleagues, participating in faculty meetings and professional development, and contributing to the school’s Catholic mission through modeling values of respect, responsibility, and service.

Responsibilities:

  • Organize classroom systems/procedures and manage student behavior to ensure all students are fully engaged in learning and to maintain classroom safety and order.
  • Develop and implement lesson plans and classroom activities consistent with Diocese of Oakland Curriculum Standards and California State Standards for Science.
  • Assess students regularly, examine student assessment data, and refine classroom activities to differentiate instruction for each student.
  • Collaborate closely with Middle School Team Members to align curriculum across subjects, improve own and others' instructional practices, and share best practices.
  • Actively participate in professional development activities, including training sessions and working with the principal and instructional coaches.
  • Provide students and their families with regular and timely information on classroom activities and student progress; find ways to involve parents/guardians in their child's education.
  • Track critical student information and maintain accurate student records. Identifies unique student needs and collaborates with other team members and outside service providers to address learning challenges.
  • Prepare the 8th grade students for the transition to high school.
  • Collaborates to prepare documentation and send it on to the various high schools.
  • Plan Graduation activities for the 8th grade students.
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field; valid California teaching credential or equivalent certification preferred.
  • 1+ year working with students as a teacher, teacher intern, or teaching assistant preferred.
  • Background in Science Education with the ability to teach core science concepts.
  • Knowledge of subject matter, including California State Standards and subject-specific frameworks.
  • Knowledge of child cognitive development and different learning styles, and the ability to integrate technology into instruction and use data to inform teaching practices.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills, with a commitment to inclusive, student-centered learning with colleagues, parents, and the community.
  • Willingness to support the Catholic identity of the school and participate in school-wide activities and service initiatives.
