What to Expect
Tesla's Cathode Advanced Manufacturing Project team is looking for a highly motivated individual to serve as a Project Engineer supporting the pilot‑scale facilities in Fremont, CA. This cross‑functional role requires coordination between many Tesla groups—including Engineering, Production, Quality, Supply Chain, Production Planning, Operations, the Executive team—as well as external partners.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in project management and execution with technical knowledge of chemical process manufacturing. As a Project Engineer, you will drive projects from concept through install, integration, ramp, and handover to operations, and you will lead technical initiatives such as process development, operational efficiency, and reliability improvements.
What You’ll Do- Work with Cathode Engineering, Factory Design, Quality, Operations, and other supporting functions to scope and drive designs for deployment of materials for production equipment.
- Determine project specifications and acquire the necessary materials for completion.
- Develop scope and define parameters for project design and implementation.
- Define and drive tasks to be performed by the cross‑functional team.
- Identify creative ways to overcome obstacles and meet the schedule despite setbacks.
- Drive review and selection of external equipment vendors and integrators for delivery of the selected manufacturing project scope.
- Coordinate internal and external engineering findings to de‑risk plant design and optimize plant operations and availability.
- Track budget, equipment orders, and change‑order logs.
- Evidence of exceptional ability, including a strong understanding of engineering fundamentals and demonstrated ability to leverage this understanding to solve challenging technical problems.
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- 2+ years in a manufacturing environment, in a mix of engineering and project roles.
- Experience developing chemical processes is a plus.
- Direct experience planning medium‑capital projects (> $250 k) related to pilot‑scale chemical processing systems, utility systems, and integration of the two.
- Ability to work and communicate cross‑functionally, including interfacing with suppliers and third‑party firms.
- Proven ability to operate under pressure while managing multiple priorities simultaneously; must be able to work in a fast‑paced environment and occasionally work extended hours.
- Aptitude to learn and incorporate new technologies.
- Ability to identify issues and develop corrective measures to resolve them.
- Detail‑oriented with strong record‑keeping and organizational skills.

$96,800 – $168,000 annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits. Pay offered may vary based on market location, job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
