What To Expect

The Sr. Joining Engineer position, reporting to the Joining Engineering Manager, is located at our Fremont Factory location. The primary responsibility of this role is to manage and launch joining engineering projects from design to start of production. The candidate should have expertise and experience in automotive manufacturing with a full understanding of joining equipment. This includes providing input and specification of equipment, quality, cycle time, design for manufacturability and joint development.

What You’ll Do

  • Specification of joining equipment & systems such as: spot welding, self piercing rivet, remote laser welding, material dispensing and laser braze
  • Manage Cap Ex project lifecycle:
    Justification, specification / option analysis, approval, spending & budget, factory acceptance testing, installation, commissioning, validation, and transfer of ownership
  • Joint development: creating parameters and joining schedules for unique stack-ups and joints in all joining applications
  • Production readiness declaration, including PM plans, spare part allocation, training, process documentation, lessons learned and production & quality sustainability
  • Optimize joining processes to improve quality, efficiency, and cost‑effectiveness. Robot path optimization, sequencing, parameter setup. Collaborate with cross‑functional teams such as maintenance, quality, process to ensure process stability and performance
  • Structure improvement & standardization plans with long‑term vision to achieve company and department objectives
  • Study technologies to expert‑level of understanding, utilizing internal & external technical resources to fully understand, teach and lead new / newly implemented technologies
  • Support / assist Maintenance in troubleshooting difficult breakdowns and chronic equipment failures. Provide technical training to maintenance, production, and other internal resource groups
  • Working in a hands‑on capacity in a production environment to fully understand scope, impact, and associated challenges. Provide technical support to production, maintenance, quality, and other groups as required

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelors Degree or equivalent certification or proven equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of experience with joining equipment and processes for BIW automotive:
    Self piercing rivet, remote laser welding, spot welding, material dispensing and brazing
  • 5+ years of experience in setting up and running adaptive, 6‑sigma, and other joining monitoring and optimization systems
  • Kuka and Fanuc experience for day‑to‑day joining process application (robot path & position teaching is a plus)
  • Proven interpersonal skills and ability to objectively resolve conflict within a large group
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Able to work flexible hours and schedules as required

Expected Compensation

$104,000 - $156,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
