What to Expect

As a Tesla Associate Facilities Engineer, you will have the opportunity to operate and develop one of the largest and most sophisticated operating manufacturing facilities in the world. You will have the opportunity to assist in driving towards world‑class energy efficiency and minimize environmental impact through first principles operational philosophies and unprecedented operational flexibility. A Tesla Associate Facilities Engineer will work closely with system operations and engineering experts to continuously develop and improve these state‑of‑the‑art systems that will help accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy.

A Tesla Associate Facilities Engineer has the responsibility to monitor and operate critical facilities equipment to ensure uninterrupted service to production areas and equipment. The associate facilities engineer is also responsible for ensuring all facilities equipment is operating in the most efficient manner possible to ensure that Tesla facilities meet aggressive safety, efficiency and sustainability practices that exceed industry standards.

What

You’ll Do
  • Operate and monitor all HVAC, hydronic, and other utility equipment in a 24hr production or R&D facility to ensure reliable service to all areas of the site. Systems may include:
    Chilled water, heating water, compressed air, medium voltage electrical distribution, VOC abatement, chemical delivery, and chemical recovery systems
  • Start and stop equipment as well as maintain facility operation through control software and/or field HMI
  • Provide support for new equipment installation, startup, commissioning, and sustaining operations with cross‑functional teams
  • Perform routine operator rounds of equipment and systems
  • Troubleshoot alarms and instrument readings that fall outside of normal operating parameters, record and report deviations and corrections
  • Champion and observe all safety policies during the execution of required tasks
  • Improve the reliability of equipment and systems through collaboration with Facilities Operations and Engineering teammates
  • Participate in engineering design and analysis tasks to support ongoing improvement projects
  • Work from schematics, piping and instrument diagrams, layouts, plans, and written/verbal instructions
  • Implement and sustain standard organizational practices and adhere to 5S practices
What You’ll Bring
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Electrical Engineering, 2 years of college/technical school or equivalent work experience
  • Must understand basic mechanical, electrical, SCADA and automated controls system operations
  • Experience with chemical handling and electrical distribution is desired
  • Open to schedule flexibility that will allow for a variety of shifts, including days, nights, or weekends as needed
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills; ability to prepare and present reports and/or PowerPoint type presentations is essential
  • Excellent computer skills using the Microsoft Office platform (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, One Note, etc.)
  • Wearing Personal Protective Equipment, including but not limited to: safety glasses, safety shoes, bump caps, and adhering to prescribed safety rules and guidelines
  • Ability to wear a full‑face air‑purifying respirator while performing mildly or moderately exertional tasks for 4 consecutive hours, up to 12 hours per day
  • Ability to sit, stand, and/or walk for 10+ hours per day. Lift at least 10 lbs on a regular basis, perform repetitive hand and wrist motions and sometimes may have to twist and bend body, ability to climb ladders/stairs, work in loud environment. Must be able to discern audible alarms
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work for extended periods of time, including but not limited to:
    Stoop, lay, bend, reach, squat, kneel, crouch, twist, and crawl for extended periods of time. Climb and maintain balance on ladders, scaffolding or other high structures. Ability to find issues in a work process and receive safety signals using sight, touch, and hearing. Demonstrated ability to handle and manipulate tooling, quickly and accurately during new hire training and maintaining ability throughout employment.
