Optical Design Engineer

Our client is a world leader in the design and manufacture of customized photonics components and modules for industrial, defense, industrial, and medical OEMs.

At our client's Northern CA Facility, they are looking for a motivated individual to work in a team of Design Engineers interacting closely with Production, Sales, and Process Engineering to help create, test, and refine AO (Acousto-Optic) and EO (Electro-Optic) Components, Assemblies, Products through the entire development cycle from concept to release-to-Manufacturing. Because of the unique end products our customers sell, the opportunity will initially focus on all technical aspects of prototype build and characterization and evolve into customer-based Product Design dependent on the successful Candidates' experience and aptitude.

We are looking for an Individual with:

• Bachelors or Masters in Science or Engineering
• Professional Experience of 5-10 years in laser or photonics or optics industry.
• hands-on experimental experience in a Laser / Photonics Laboratory
• excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• strong analytical thinking

Required and Useful Skills

• experience using or developing acousto-optic devices or systems that use them (modulators, beam deflectors, switches, filters) a strong plus
• Hands-on experience with Opto-mechanical assemblies
• Theoretical understanding of optical beam characteristics including diffraction
• Gaussian beam and/or Ray trace modelling a plus
• RF electronics background or experience a plus (Impedance transformation circuits)
• MATLAB or equivalent software experience a plus
• Thermal modeling experience a plus
• UV and/or MIR optical experience a plus
