What To Expect
Tesla Vehicle Manufacturing Engineering is looking for a highly motivated joining engineer to create, develop and scale up joining processes for new programs. This role requires working closely with Design Engineering to take joining process designs and implement design changes. It also requires collaborating with cross‑functional teams, both internal and external, to develop new joining setups, conduct equipment validation, and launch the line from initial concept through prototype development and into full production.
WhatYou'll Do
- Collaborate closely with Structures Design Engineering and CAE Engineering to support Design for Manufacturability (DFM) in future programs early in the design phase.
- Design, develop, commission, and ramp high‑speed automated joining equipment while working in a cross‑functional team to test, validate, and roll out process and product design changes.
- Plan and execute design of experiments (DoEs) to characterize boundary conditions and optimize the process for joining manufacturability and quality.
- Drive cell reviews of process design, fixture design, simulations, cycle time plans, line layout, equipment maintenance strategy, and optimization toward high‑speed limits.
- During launch, lead equipment installation, commissioning, and ramp‑up of high‑volume production lines, collaborating with partner vendors to deliver the line in the shortest possible time and within project budgets.
- Take direct responsibility for achieving joining quality targets and lead all activities to that objective, including the development of quality control plans, PFMEA, and dimensional improvement plans.
- Collect and prepare the final documentation handover package to ensure long‑term sustainability and optimization of new production lines.
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- 2+ years of related experience developing and launching welding and mechanical joining processes in automotive or electronics industries.
- In‑depth understanding of welding, mechanical joining processes, equipment, and metallurgy.
- Ability to function independently, collaborate within a team, be detail oriented, organized, hands‑on, and make strong decisions.
- Maintain engagement, initiative, positivity in tough circumstances, and take full accountability for assignments.
- Extensive proficiency in creating written and pictorial documentation of manufacturing processes.
- Capability to collect, analyze, and summarize information into understandable, abstracted concepts.
- Mastery of Excel, Word, and PowerPoint; experience with AUTOCAD, CATIA 3DX, and other similar software/tools.
- Medical plans with $0 payroll deduction.
- Family‑building, fertility, adoption, and surrogacy benefits.
- Dental (including orthodontic coverage) and vision plans, both with $0 paycheck contribution.
- Company‑paid Health Savings Account (HSA) contribution when enrolled in the high‑deductible medical plan.
- Health Care and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA).
- 401(k) with employer match, Employee Stock Purchase Plans, and other financial benefits.
- Company‑paid Basic Life and AD&D.
- Short‑term and long‑term disability insurance (90‑day waiting period).
- Employee Assistance Program.
- Sick and vacation time (flex time for salaried positions, accrued hours for hourly positions) and paid holidays.
- Back‑up childcare and parenting support resources.
- Voluntary benefits including critical illness, hospital indemnity, accident insurance, theft & legal services, and pet insurance.
- Weight‑loss and tobacco cessation programs.
- Tesla Babies program.
- Commuter benefits.
- Employee discounts and perks program.
$91,600 - $316,800 annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits. Pay offered may vary depending on market location, job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
