Overview

This is the first planning hire on site. You will not inherit a process, a system, or a team. You build them.

Pave Talent is hiring on behalf of our client, a profitable, publicly traded specialty materials manufacturer standing up a brand-new high-tech production site for a first-to-market copper-based platform. The end markets are among the fastest-growing in technology: artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure, electric vehicles (EV), 5G, data centers, and semiconductor packaging. The planning function behind it is being built from scratch, and you are the person who builds it.

• Hands-on planners who personally build the demand plan, the capacity plan, and the master production schedule, not managers who direct planners from a distance
• Builders who want a blank sheet and an Excel file, not a mature site where every process is already dialed in
• People who can live in ambiguity, move with urgency, and bring solutions to problems nobody here has solved yet
• Analytical minds who are also genuine people-people, comfortable influencing commercial and product teams without direct authority

If you want a fully built-out planning shop with a team to delegate to and a system already running, this is not your role.

This is bigger than the title. As the business scales across multiple US sites, the planner who builds this function well is on a clear path to lead planning for the entire network. You will also matrix into a supply chain Center of Excellence led by someone who has spent the last few years transforming how this organization plans. In the hiring manager's words, the company "did not even know what they didn't know" about planning, and the people who have stepped up are being handed visibility and bigger mandates fast.

You report on site, with a matrix line into the planning Center of Excellence, and own the planning function end to end. You will have one Buyer/Planner as your direct report and room to build the team as the site scales. The business runs planning in Excel today and has capital approved to move onto SAP Integrated Business Planning (IBP), already piloting at another US site.

You shape the process now and help bring the system online later.

• Demand planning: partner with commercial, product, and sales to turn the forecast into a credible supply plan, and own the reconciliation yourself
• Rough-cut capacity planning two to three years out, so the business sees and closes capacity gaps early instead of reacting month to month
• Master production scheduling (MPS) and raw material planning
• A lightweight S&OP rhythm now, maturing toward full S&OP and IBP as SAP IBP comes online
• The planning voice across line-of-business owners, product management, new product development, sales, and production
• Develop your one Buyer/Planner, and build the team out as volume grows

This is a greenfield build, not a steady-state seat. There is gray everywhere, and not every answer exists yet. The hiring manager put it plainly: it takes someone who "does not mind getting their hands dirty" and can "live in a little bit of gray." High growth, high reward, but you build the plane while you fly it. And the work is hands-on planning, not procurement, warehouse, or logistics.

As the hiring manager said, "planning is planning," and an adjacent operations profile gets spotted quickly.

• Around 5+ years of hands-on demand and supply planning, where you personally built the plans
• Rough-cut capacity planning, including a multi-year (two to three year) view, not just short-term execution
• Master production scheduling (MPS), and familiarity with raw material planning
• Comfort building a planning process from scratch in Excel, with no system or team to lean on yet
• The blend of analytical horsepower and the communication skills to influence the business without direct authority
• A genuine startup, build-it mentality and comfort with ambiguity
• Industry is flexible. Planning skill matters more than sector.
• SAP IBP, or another advanced planning system (Kinaxis, o9, Blue Yonder, SAP APO)
• Formal S&OP or IBP process ownership
• Prior people leadership, or a clear desire to manage and build a team
• Process or batch manufacturing background (chemical, specialty chemical, semiconductor, electronics, pharmaceutical)
• Lean, Six Sigma, or APICS / CPIM
