What to Expect
Tesla is looking for a highly motivated Process Engineer to support the launch phase of Optimus Production - Power Supply Charging Segment. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in manufacturing process development, a hands‑on approach to problem solving, and the ability to collaborate cross‑functionally to drive operational efficiency and ensure all assemblies are produced to design specifications. The primary objective of this role is to define, implement, and continuously improve the manufacturing processes that enable scalable, high‑quality production.
The candidate will work closely with Design Engineering, Quality, and Supply Chain teams to ensure process readiness from early development through high‑volume manufacturing. Your contributions in this demanding and fast‑paced environment will be central to the development of a groundbreaking product, aligning with our mission of achieving extraordinary abundance through innovative manufacturing practices.
- Develop, document, and implement robust manufacturing processes for Optimus sub‑assemblies and systems. Develop process flows, work instructions, cycle time studies, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) to support production launch and ramp.
- Drive Process Readiness with Cross‑Functional Teams: partner with Design Engineering, Quality, Tooling, and Automation teams to ensure manufacturing processes are feasible, efficient, and capable of meeting product specifications. Lead process and manufacturing readiness reviews.
- Define critical process parameters and develop and maintain control plans, implement Statistical Process Control (SPC), and conduct process capability studies (Cpk/Ppk) to ensure sustained process performance.
- Drive PFMEA development and maintenance in collaboration with Quality and Design teams. Identify process risks, define detection and mitigation controls, and implement corrective actions to reduce risk priority numbers (RPNs).
- Lead qualification and validation of new manufacturing equipment, fixtures, and tooling. Collaborate with automation and controls teams to optimize equipment performance, uptime, and cycle time.
- Apply first‑principles thinking and structured problem‑solving methodologies (8D, A3, fishbone, DoE) to investigate and resolve process‑related issues. Drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce scrap, rework, cycle time, and production costs.
- Provide hands‑on technical support on the production floor to troubleshoot process issues in real‑time, minimizing downtime and maintaining production throughput targets. Act as the primary process technical resource during launch and ramp phases.
- Monitor process performance metrics, analyze production data trends, and implement process improvements to achieve yield, throughput, and cost targets. Partner with production teams to ensure processes are running to standard.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, Computer Engineering, etc.) or other technical discipline, or equivalent experience.
- Demonstrated experience in process engineering within a high‑volume manufacturing or automotive/aerospace production environment.
- Proficiency in process development tools and methodologies including PFMEA, control plans, APQP, process capability analysis (Cpk/Ppk), and SPC.
- Hands‑on experience with structured problem‑solving tools such as 8D, A3, fishbone diagrams, DoE, and root cause analysis.
- Familiarity with automation, robotics, or mechatronic assembly processes is highly desirable.
- Strong data analysis skills; experience with manufacturing data systems, statistical tools, and process monitoring software.
- Excellent oral, written, and presentation communication skills with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
- Ability to thrive under pressure while managing competing demands and tight deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
- Medical plans – plan options with $0 payroll deduction.
- Family‑building, fertility, adoption and surrogacy benefits.
- Dental (including orthodontic coverage) and vision plans, both have options with a $0 paycheck…
