Hire Art is helping an on-demand, autonomous ride-hailing company find a Plant Issue Resolution Engineer – Autonomous Test Fleet & Robotaxi Pre-Production to support vehicle build quality and production readiness across autonomous fleet and pre-production robotaxi manufacturing operations.

In this role, you’ll operate at the intersection of engineering and manufacturing, serving as a key escalation point for issues identified during vehicle assembly and end‑of‑line testing. You’ll drive rapid containment, root cause investigation, and cross‑functional corrective actions to improve build quality, vehicle readiness, and production efficiency.

The ideal candidate is a hands‑on manufacturing or sustaining engineer with deep experience troubleshooting mechanical vehicle systems, particularly body closures, within fast‑paced production environments.

Responsibilities
  • Lead triage, containment, and resolution activities for issues identified during vehicle assembly and end‑of‑line validation.
  • Act as the primary escalation point for production issues, helping unblock vehicle builds and maintain manufacturing throughput.
  • Define and implement short‑term containment actions, including rework plans, part quarantines, and build flow protection measures.
  • Drive root cause investigations across manufacturing, design, supplier, process, and vehicle integration teams.
  • Partner with engineering teams to develop, validate, and implement permanent corrective actions that prevent issue recurrence.
  • Support prototype builds, production trials, engineering changes, and validation activities to improve manufacturability and vehicle quality.
  • Identify production bottlenecks and recommend Design for Manufacturing (DFM) improvements.
  • Track issue health, closure rates, and recurrence trends through dashboards, reporting, and issue management processes.
  • Collaborate closely with manufacturing, supplier quality, vehicle engineering, and operations teams to improve production readiness and fleet reliability.
Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related technical discipline; a master's degree is preferred.
  • 6+ years of experience in automotive OEM, robotics, aviation, or other complex manufacturing environments.
  • Direct experience supporting manufacturing, production engineering, sustaining engineering, or field issue resolution activities.
  • Strong expertise in body closure systems, including doors, latches, actuators, sealing systems, glazing, access panels, and related vehicle structures.
  • Proven experience leading root cause analysis and corrective action efforts in manufacturing or field environments.
  • Strong troubleshooting, decision‑making, and problem‑solving skills in high‑pressure production settings.
  • Excellent cross‑functional communication and collaboration skills.
  • This role requires safety boots that conform to ASTM F2412 / F2413 requirements.
Bonus Qualifications
  • Experience with Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles and manufacturing process optimization.
  • Lean, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement training or certifications.
  • Experience supporting autonomous vehicle, robotics, EV, or advanced mobility programs.
  • Familiarity with PLM and MES systems such as 3DX (Dassault), DELMIA, SAP ME/MII, or similar platforms.
  • Exposure to Jira, Confluence, SQL, Python, or data visualization tools.
  • Experience supporting prototype builds, production ramp activities, or new product launches.
Benefits
  • Pre‑tax commuter benefits.
  • Employer (Hire Art) subsidized healthcare benefits (eligibility begins on the first of the month following 60 days of service).
  • Flexible Spending Account for healthcare‑related costs.
  • Hire Art covers all costs for short‑and‑long‑term disability and life insurance.
  • 401k package.
