Field Applications Engineer, Electrical Systems

The Field Applications Engineer, Electrical Systems will play a critical role in the design, validation, testing, and deployment of Nextpower's utility-scale PV + Storage power plant solutions. This hybrid role combines responsibilities across Electrical Balance of System (eBOS) engineering and Field Application Engineering, supporting both product development and real-world implementation.

The engineer will work across the full lifecycle of electrical systems—including design, integration, testing, commissioning, and field support—ensuring reliable, compliant, and high-performance operation of Nextpower's power block technologies.

This position is based in Fremont, California, with periodic travel to test facilities and project sites.

This role bridges product development and field execution, combining deep electrical system design expertise with hands-on testing and deployment experience. The ideal candidate thrives in both engineering and field environments and is passionate about advancing next-generation PV + Storage power plant solutions.

Qualifications & Experience

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in electrical engineering, power systems, solar PV, or energy storage.
  • Strong understanding of: AC/DC power systems and distribution, power conversion systems (inverters, DC/DC converters), eBOS function and application, electrical protection, grounding, and coordination.
  • Experience with electrical design documentation (SLDs, schematics).
  • Hands-on experience with testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting power systems.
  • Familiarity with industry standards (NEC, UL, IEEE, IEC).
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally (25–50%).

Preferred

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • Experience with PV + Storage hybrid systems and grid integration.
  • Knowledge of SCADA, controls, and communication protocols (Modbus, DNP3, IEC 61850).
  • Experience with supplier quality, manufacturing, or component qualification.
  • Background in inverter systems, power plant controls, or performance testing.
