Nextpower – Project Engineering Team – Fremont, CA

Job Overview

Nextpower is seeking a Director of Structural Engineering to lead the US structural engineering team for utility-scale PV projects. The role encompasses overseeing the entire project lifecycle from development through construction, ensuring high‑quality steel design, foundation calculations, and preparation of structural documentation. Collaboration with cross‑functional teams across the U.S., India, and global offices is essential.

Key Responsibilities
  • Direct and manage a team of Structural Engineers in the US and support regions.
  • Perform detailed structural analysis and calculations to ensure integrity and safety of solar structures based on project‑specific design parameters.
  • Develop advanced structural analysis tools in coordination with R&D and software teams.
  • Coordinate with third‑party experts in wind tunnel testing, component analysis, and lifecycle testing.
  • Lead structural engineering efforts for multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timely and efficient delivery to EPC customers.
  • Ensure all structural designs comply with local, state, and federal regulations and industry standards such as ASCE, IBC, ASTM, AISC, AISI, and ACI.
  • Coordinate with project managers and engineers from various companies to align structural design with overall project objectives.
  • Manage relationships with EPC customers and structural EOR partners throughout the project design lifecycle, under direction from the engineering manager.
  • Work cross‑functionally with Applications Engineering & Testing teams, Product Development, Machines, and Business Development functions.
  • Contribute to the growth of the Design Services team by supporting process improvement and team development efforts.
Required Skills & Expertise
  • Bachelor’s degree in Structural or Civil Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in structural engineering, ideally within the EPC solar industry.
  • Hands‑on experience in structural analysis and design for dead, live, snow, wind, and seismic loads; design of steel and concrete structures; and development of construction documents.
  • Advanced proficiency in finite element analysis software such as RISA‑3D, STAAD, or equivalent.
  • Experience in static and dynamic structural analysis of solar tracker structures.
  • Strong knowledge of engineering standards, codes, and applicable state and federal guidelines.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license in multiple states.
  • Experience in software development, machine learning, and/or artificial intelligence preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve design challenges.
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills with the ability to prioritize competing deadlines and manage a portfolio of projects.
  • Team‑oriented and self‑driven with excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Passion for renewable energy and solar power is a plus.
Benefits and Compensation

Pay is based on market location and may vary based on experience, skills, education, and other job‑related reasons. The annual salary range for this position is $200,000 to $230,000.
