Senior Engineer, R&D Engineering Services & Labs

In this role, you will serve as a materials characterization subject matter resource, partnering with cross-functional teams to generate data, evaluate material performance, and support product development activities. This position offers the opportunity to apply materials science expertise across research, design, manufacturing, quality, and regulatory functions while contributing to multiple stages of the product lifecycle.
What You Will Do
- Perform material characterization testing and microstructural analysis using techniques such as microscopy, scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM/EDX), micro-computed tomography (micro-CT), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and metallography.
- Analyze test data, interpret results, and prepare technical reports that summarize findings, conclusions, and recommendations.
- Support product development teams as a materials consultant by providing technical expertise on metals, polymers, and manufacturing processes.
- Develop, refine, and document test methods, protocols, and work instructions to support consistent characterization activities.
- Establish and implement new materials characterization capabilities to address evolving engineering and product development needs.
- Create and maintain engineering documentation, including design and testing records, in accordance with quality system requirements.
- Apply design controls, risk management practices, change control processes, and regulatory requirements throughout development activities.
- Collaborate with Research & Development, Quality, Manufacturing, Regulatory Affairs, Clinical, Marketing, and Project Management teams to support project deliverables and timelines.
What You Will Need
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Materials Science, or a related technical field.
- Minimum 2 years of professional experience in engineering, materials science, materials characterization, or a related technical discipline.
- Experience conducting materials testing and analyzing technical data.
- Experience preparing technical reports and engineering documentation.
- Experience with microscopy, SEM/EDX, micro-CT, DSC, metallography, or similar materials characterization techniques.
- Knowledge of materials science principles related to metals, polymers, and manufacturing methods.
- Experience using statistical analysis methods and engineering analysis tools.
- Experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings and specifications.

$101,000 - $168,400 USD Annual
Travel Percentage: 10%
