Hardware Technician (Engineering Technician I)
The Engineering Technician I plays a key role in supporting new product introduction, rack integration, lab infrastructure, and engineering validation activities. You will build, configure, troubleshoot, and prepare server systems for engineering and customer testing, helping accelerate development and validation programs in a fast-paced technology environment.
Responsibilities- Build and configure server hardware, including network and power components, to support engineering and customer testing activities.
- Support new product introduction (NPI) build activities by assembling, integrating, and preparing systems for evaluation.
- Execute hardware modifications and upgrades on server and rack-level equipment as directed by engineering teams.
- Perform system setup, configuration, and validation preparation to ensure systems are ready for test execution.
- Support troubleshooting and diagnostics of hardware, software, and connectivity issues in lab and rack environments.
- Assist with lab infrastructure improvements, including organization, equipment setup, and ongoing maintenance.
- Ensure all work complies with established quality, safety, and ESD (electrostatic discharge) standards and procedures.
- Use test equipment and tools to perform hardware testing, rework, and verification activities.
- Interpret schematics, blueprints, and technical drawings to guide assembly, integration, and troubleshooting.
- Collaborate with engineering and lab teams to identify issues, propose solutions, and implement corrective actions.
- Document work performed, including configurations, modifications, and test results, to support validation and audit requirements.
- Associate Degree in Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical, Computer Technology, or equivalent experience.
- 3+ years of experience in hardware integration, server assembly, engineering support, or lab operations.
- Hands-on experience building and troubleshooting server racks, preferably in a data center or lab environment.
- Proficiency in hardware testing, rework, and troubleshooting using appropriate tools and test equipment.
- Ability to install and configure software as part of system setup and validation activities.
- Familiarity with networking concepts, including cabling, basic configuration, and connectivity troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of power distribution and data center hardware, including rack-level power and cabling practices.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics, and blueprints to perform assembly and diagnostics.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills for both hardware and software issues.
- Basic understanding of electronics principles and components relevant to server and lab hardware.
- Ability to work safely in environments requiring ESD controls and loud ear protection.
Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with lab infrastructure setup and improvements in an engineering or data center environment.
- Exposure to Python for basic scripting, automation, or test support is a plus.
- Comfort with standing for long periods of time while performing assembly, testing, and troubleshooting tasks.
- Ability to work effectively in a large, structured organization with clear processes and standards.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high quality and safety standards.
- Good communication skills to collaborate with engineering, operations, and lab personnel.
- Demonstrated ability to adapt to fast-changing, high-growth technology environments.

WorkEnvironment
You will work in a large, high-security technology facility focused on data center and lab operations. The environment is clean and organized, with extensive server, storage, and networking equipment used for integration and validation. Work often takes place in labs and rack areas where standing for long periods of time is common. The facility requires adherence to ESD (electrostatic discharge) controls and the use of loud ear protection where necessary.
You will work with test equipment, server racks, networking and power distribution hardware, and related tools in a fast-changing, high-growth technology setting.
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fremont, CA.
