Process Engineer, Chemical Engineering
Whether you're early in your process engineering career or you've been running the floor for a decade, there's a seat here for you:
Process Engineer I, Process Engineer II, or Senior Process Engineer, at one of three U.S. sites.
Our client is a multi-billion-dollar, NYSE-listed specialty materials company that makes the chemistry inside the electronics you use every day. They've secured significant capital to scale a next-generation nano-copper material from pilot volumes to full commercial production, riding real demand from AI data centers and electric-vehicle power electronics. This is not a concept; it's a build already underway across California, Connecticut, and New Jersey.
- Engineers who've actually run batch reactions in a plant or pilot facility, not just in a lab notebook
- People who are comfortable around flammable solvents and corrosive chemicals in a process safety-managed environment
- Builders who want to wear multiple hats during a stabilization and scale-up phase, not people looking for one narrow, settled lane
- Anyone who gets energy from watching a process go from "we're still figuring this out" to "this is how we do it every time"
- This is not the fit for someone who wants a fully mature, unchanging process on day one
Three U.S. locations are hiring in parallel right now:
- An East Coast site building roughly 30,000 square feet of new plant inside an existing footprint, targeting a 50% jump in throughput
- A Northeast engineering and pilot-scale development center, heavier on reaction chemistry, P& (piping and instrumentation diagram) development, and lab-to-commercial scale-up
Depending on level and site, you'll report into a plant or engineering manager and join a growing process engineering team. Your first months will center on production and process stabilization: troubleshooting real batches, learning the chemistry, and helping set the SPC (statistical process control) baselines the next decade of operations will run on.
- Monitor and improve Statistical Process Control for key products, using tools like JMP or Minitab
- Troubleshoot batch chemistry issues and drive root cause analysis to closure on non-conforming material
- Read and work from P&IDs and process flow diagrams; support process equipment specification and startup
- Support scale-up from pilot to full production, including batch validation, process documentation, and operator training
- Coordinate Management of Change and process safety reviews (HAZOP, PSSR) with maintenance and production
- At the senior level, lead capital project scope, mentor junior engineers, and own SOPs (standard operating procedures) that become institutional knowledge for the platform
This is hands-on, plant-floor work in facilities that are actively being built out or scaled up. Things aren't fully settled yet, and that's the appeal for the right person: you're writing the playbook, not inheriting one. If you want a slow, unchanging process with no ambiguity, this isn't it.
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or a related discipline
- Hands-on batch chemical process experience in a production or pilot-plant setting (lab-only or pure research and development backgrounds are not a fit)
- Comfort working around flammable solvents and corrosive chemicals; exposure to Process Safety Management (PSM) concepts like HAZOP, PSSR (pre-startup safety review), or Management of Change
- Statistical Process Control fluency (JMP or Minitab)
- Authorized to work in the United States without current or future employer sponsorship (this client does not sponsor)
- Background in fine or specialty chemicals, pharmaceutical active ingredient manufacturing, coatings, inks, adhesives and resins, or battery materials
- Six Sigma Green Belt or equivalent continuous improvement training
- Prior capital project or lab-to-commercial scale-up experience
- Professional Engineer (PE) license, for senior-level candidates
